This North African economic zone has been founded already in November 1965, but was then postponed practically for several years due to politic reasons. At the end of the 80's some sort of revitalisation took place, that led to a new beginning on 17.02.1989 during conference in Marrakesh. The aim is in this case also the creation of a free trade area, harmonisation of trade regulations and free movement of the community citizens. Some further information can be gathered at the UMA website.
